What's Cooking?

My Momma gave me some roasted peanuts the other day that she had surplus to requirement.

I had just bought quite a few jars of peanuts since they have been on sale lately so I didn't need peanuts but I did need peanut butter.

Peanuts = Peanut Butter

Peanut Butter

Roasted Peanuts
Salt
Coconut or peanut or veg oil (up to you if you need it or not)
Honey (to taste)

Throw the peanuts into your food processor and turn it on.
If they aren't salted already, throw in a dash of salt as well.
Keep the food processor going until the peanut butter is at your desired consistency.
You may need to add a little oil just to smooth things out a bit.
If you like sweetened peanut butter, add a little honey.
That's it.
Keep refrigerated as it's shelf life will not be as long as the store bought kind.

  1. Now you know I really only cook by following recipes *exactly*. And also processing the cost to make your own instead of buy at $1.50.
    How many lbs. peanuts to get lb. PB? Scale of 1-10 compared to Jiffy or Peter Pan? very curious of course :-)

    1. The weight would be the same 1lb. peanuts = 1lb. peanut butter (most jars are about 18oz.) These peanuts were free so this was a better deal than on sale. ;) But you also have to remember that this is the real deal so we would compare the homemade stuff to a premium brand like Smucker's naturals where it is just peanuts and salt. I think this would be comparable to $1.50 a jar, maybe slightly more. As for an exact recipe, sorry, you just will have to wing it Ms. Cricket. :)

    1. If you have lots of peanuts to play with, maybe you could make a whole slew of different flavors/textures Miz Helen. :) Mmmmm....
