What's Cooking?

This past Saturday I hosted my Ladies Wot Brunch and got to surprise them by making it a house party too with Seventh Generation and Stonyfield Yogurt samples.

On the menu:

Caramel Mudslide Coffee
Turkey Bacon
Hot Tomato Grits
Cucumber Soup
Stonyfield Yogurt
Basic Cheesecake w/Peach Amaretto Sauce

Why I can never remember to actually take pictures at brunch, I'll never know.  Actually, that's not true, I do know.  It's because I am having fun with my guests and completely forget about taking photos.

We played a bingo game sent to us by the folks at Stonyfield & Seventh Generation that pertained to eliminating toxins from your home.  The prizes were items like a jar of jelly, YoBaby bib, Eric Carle growth chart, reed diffuser, etc.

All of my Ladies Wot Brunch were familiar with Seventh Generation and were excited about the samples but not many were familiar with Stonyfield yogurt products.  I purposefully bought the YoBaby yogurt for us all to try.  I feel like if we are going to feed it to our kiddos then we should at least know what it tastes like ourselves.  Turns out, that was a good call.  We all really liked the YoBaby.  I especially liked the texture of the yogurt; it was super creamy and light, not at all gluey like some yogurts.  Also, it wasn't very sweet which we all appreciated.

The surprise hit of the day (besides the yogurt) were those grits so I think I had better give you the recipe:

Hot Tomato Grits

1-2 Tbs. Bacon Grease
2 cans Chicken Stock (I used one jar of homemade)
1 Jalapeno, chopped
1 c. Quick Cook Grits
2 Tomatoes, de-seeded & chopped
1 c. shredded cheddar (I used cubed pepper jack and American cheese I had on hand)
Salt & Pepper to taste

Melt down bacon grease.  Pour in stock and add jalapeno.  Bring to a boil.  Stir in grits & tomatoes and return to a boil.  Reduce heat and stir often for about 15 minutes.  Stir in the cheese, cover and let stand for an additional 5 minutes.

I just found out I was picked to be on Miz Helen's Full Plate with all those preserves from last week!  Thank you Miz Helen.

This is part of Miz Helen's Full Plate Thursday.
Moms Meet provided the Stonyfield & Seventh Generation products for my ladies and me to try out.
