Madly in Love

It's amazing to me how something as simple yet bizarre as an integer can spark a conversation in our house.

I'm sure that I've mentioned before about Engineer's fixation with numbers.  I mean, c'mon...he is an Engineer after all.  It is literally his job to be obsessed with numbers.

This morning as he was checking Diva's Algebra II homework, one answer to a problem was 24.  Engineer then proceeded to describe how cool the number 24 is.  Please keep in mind, this conversation was before 6:30a.m.

  • 24 is divisible by the consecutive numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, as well as 6, 12 (6x2), and 24 (12x2) which are the doubles of themselves.
  • The first numeral (2) is the square root of the second numeral (4).
  • Both numerals are even
  • Etc.
In a bit of pre-coffee teasing, I said to him, "24 is certainly cooler than 38."  (Engineer just had a birthday last week and he turned, yes, you guessed it, 38.)

He shot back, "Ugh!  38 is the worst!  One numeral is even and the other one is odd, it's only divisible by 1, 2, 19, and itself!  38 doesn't even like 38!  The best thing that ever happened to 38 is that I turned it" and with that, he walked away.

I am madly in love with my self-assured nerdy Engineer who is actually the coolest thing to happen to 38.

1-4-3 EM for making me laugh about math even before coffee.
