I'm going to title this week "Make an Effort Week."
Engineer's parents came over to celebrate his birthday on Sunday. We went out for steak then came home to watch "The Lego Movie." Yes, Engineer turned 36 not 6 yet we still watched a movie about talking building blocks.
I went to the first Moms in Prayer group of the year at Diva's school. I thought it would be a great way to meet other moms as well as have a presence at school. I like having a relationship with the faculty and staff of Diva's school.
That same day, I went to the first PTA meeting of the year. It was neat to compare and contrast it to the PTA at Diva's former school.
Our sweet neighbor and I had lunch on Thursday. She is a young mom with a three year old whose husband, like so many around this area, works in the oilfield. She is a fellow Texan and a sweet lady. It was lovely to get to know her a little better.
Diva is really enjoying her new school but I've got to tell you that the amount of homework the kid is coming home with is staggering! Is this normal for Jr. High kids these days? I do not remember having the quantity of homework that she does. Maybe I did and just didn't do it?...that's not entirely out of the realm of possibility...shhh! Don't tell Diva that though.
Engineer attended his second Home Brewers Association meeting. Yes, it is as dorky as it sounds, but he seems to like it. And his membership is official...he has the shirt to prove it.
Diva's school made its cross country debut at a meet on Saturday. The P.E. teacher, the parents, and most certainly the kids did not know what to expect. What was a wonderful surprise was the weather. It was chilly, no, it was down-right cold. I was in sweats and wished I had a jacket. Not so fun for spectators but AWESOME weather for the runners. Our kiddos did great for their first time and by no means came last. Engineer and I were very proud of Diva who had never participated in a competitive sport.
Also Saturday, we went to PetSmart to get Truffles' nails clipped and ended up adding a new member to our clan.
This is Winnie. Named as an homage to one of Diva's favorite books "Because of Winn-Dixie."
She was one of the rescue dogs available and was so very timid in the store but her eyes were irresistible.
After five minutes of sniffing and gingerly strolling around the backyard she began playing with Caspar.
She seems to be content with her new family.
