Last week seeds like each day took an age.  Not necessarily in a bad way, just in a every day went by slowly kind of way.

My parents visited Sunday and brought Diva back from spending the weekend with them.

Monday, a precious friend came over from Marshall for an appointment so we went out for breakfast.

Throughout the week, I spent my time turning the 6 big bags of pears that we had picked into pear-vanilla jam, pear slices, pear honey, pear butter, pearsauce, pear peel jelly, carrot cake jam, pear wine, pear molasses, and pear mincemeat.  Dealing with pears (or any fruit you have to peel) takes a considerable amount of time as well as makes a considerable mess.

Engineer has started running with Diva in the evenings on the days she doesn't have practice.

We had dinner at our friends' house and played cards on Friday - something we hadn't done in a long time and really enjoyed.

Over the weekend, my friend and I explored a bit of the Shreveport/Bossier area thrift/junk/antique stores.  I guess I have been out of the finding-junk-in-an-actual-retail-setting loop long enough to not realize that now places are calling themselves purveyors of vintiques and junktage and such.  All that means is they sell new items bought at market!
At market for Pete's sake!
Where's the thrill of the hunt?  The fun in the game of finding authentic rusty treasure?
I don't know...I was a little taken aback by that discovery.  Finding reproductions of things that have been artificially aged seemed a little strange to me - a little too sanitary.  I guess there is something to be said for thwarting the risk of tetanus but still...

It is that time of year again, the time of year where we begin eating down the freezer in hopes that space will be filled with deer from hunting season.

  1. I'm not sure I could keep a straight face if someone told me they dealt in vintiques and junktage :)

    1. Thanks. There was a moment when I thought my hands would be in a permanent peeling position. :)
