Fels Naptha Laundry Bar

I was sent a Purex Fels-Naptha Laundry Bar in exchange for my review.
All opinions, procrastination, and laundry experiments are my own.
I have been making my own laundry soap for years now and although it isn't complicated or difficult, can be a little time consuming.

Of course, the consumption of time is relative - it only takes about 35 minutes of activity (plus an overnight of dormancy) but when you need to do a load of laundry immediately and you are out of laundry soap, time is of the essence.

It was this scenario that I was facing when I remembered that I had a Purex laundry bar in the cupboard awaiting use.  So I used my bar to make a batch of super simple and lightening fast Laundry Powder (recipe below).

I was actually planning on using the laundry bar as a stain remover since I had been told it was good for treating oily stains but necessity won out and powdered laundry soap was the result of my previous procrastination in making detergent.

Never before had I made powdered detergent but I very well may be a convert now as it was so easy and quick to throw together.  Not only that, it did a super job of cleaning my clothes.

If you'd like to learn more about Fels-Naptha, check out the Purex website.

Here's my recipe:

Laundry Powder (featuring Purex Fels-Naptha)

1 Fels-Naptha Laundry Bar
4c. Borax Powder
2c. Washing Soda
2/3c. Baking Soda
1c. Purex Crystals
5 drops Essential Oils *optional

Cut the bar into quarters and put them and the Borax in a food processor.
Pulse until the Fels-Naptha and Borax are integrated.
In a large bowl, mix all of the ingredients together.
Once thoroughly mixed, keep dry in a lidded container (I used mason jars.)
Use 2Tbs. per load of laundry.
Makes a little over 2 quarts.

Now for the fun part!  If you would like a chance at a bar to try for yourself, enter the Rafflecopter below.  Winner will be chosen 12/18/13.

  1. This is almost like our laundry soap recipe :) We love it! When we have to do about two loads a day, every day - it's important to save money where we can and making our own laundry detergent helps.

  7. We have never attempted to make our own. I don't worry so much about the cleaning ability, but the scent. The Purex Crystals would solve that potential problem.

  15. I used to make it more regularly, then I started buying a natural brand called ECOS. But I like having the homemade when I run out and can't get to the store.
