Perfectly Practical #105 - Landing Place

Everybody is rushing around getting ready for school and work.  You are being pulled in approximately 85 directions "Where is my hairbrush?"  "What's in my lunch today?"  "The cat won't get out from behind my dresser drawers and has a pair of panties on his head."  You know, the usual.

The last thing you need to do when you are already tight on time is to play hide and go seek with your keys.  That's the beauty of a landing place.

We have a rope bowl where Engineer's pockets get emptied.  His glasses, keys, phone, and other sundries go there too.  Since the guy leaves at a very precise time every morning, he does not have time to wander around the house looking for his keys and such.

A landing place is simply a place for stuff to land.

No, I don't mean any old stuff landing in any old place (like my shoes that seem to land in a pile at the base of our kitchen bar.)  I mean specifically the stuff you use every day - keys, phone, wallet, and the like having a very specific place to live.

That place where they live should be where you use it most and/or is most convenient, for example: keys by the door are a good idea, keys in the bathroom are not such a good idea.

You could have a Mason jar where you unburden your pockets, or a basket, or a fancy command center thingamabob, the container is not the important part, the important part is that your pockets' contents have their own little bit of real estate within your home.

This is part of Works for Me Wednesday.

  1. We have a basket on the stairs for the kids' "landing place." It has saved us from being late so many times! Perfectly practical indeed!

    1. Oh my goodness, if there is anything on earth that can make every fly into a tiz-was, it's trying to get out the door only to find that we are missing, keys, glasses, wallet, etc. Our collective sanity rests on having a landing place.
