Madly in Love Monday

It really irritates Engineer to hear the phrases "work on your marriage" or "focus on your marriage" or "strengthen your marriage."  I found that strange.

After all, aren't we a team?  Shouldn't we stand together, equally yoked?!  Does our commitment to each other not take effort?!!  Does our bond not need undergirding?!!!  Did we not make a covenant to each other?!!!!  A declaration before God and man?!!!!!   Heavens to Betsy!!!!!!!!!  (You can see where I might have started to overreact slightly and become somewhat irritated at his irritation.)

For the life of me I couldn't figure out why he bristled when those claims were aired, so I did what all good wives do and asked in my most saccharin and not at all overly dramatic voice, "What is your problem?!"

His answer:   "Why do I need to focus on my marriage?  I am focused on you, not a contract."

You know Engineer, you could put a lot of marriage counselors out of business touting that kind of sense.

If we are focused on each other {and God obviously} then a good marriage is the byproduct.

I am madly in love with my Engineer this Monday because he focuses on me and not the marriage.
