Perfectly Practical #53 - Shirts & Ties

It's Sunday morning and you are trying to get the family fed, washed, dressed, and out the door to make it to church on time.

But, before you can even sip on that glorious bless-ed first cup of coffee:
  • one dog throws up on the floor (and of course you are the one who finds it with your bare feet)
  • the kid is running around the house with nothing on but a shirt dangling from her head like it is long hair and singing Taylor Swift at the top of her lungs (totally oblivious to the time)
  • the other dog decides to escape from your back yard and is now treeing squirrels on your neighbor's property
  • you get a phone call asking if you will come a little early today so you can take over the Sunday School lesson at the last minute
  • Hubby hollers out the back door, "What tie goes with this shirt?" while you are chasing a terrier in your bathrobe all over God's creation to get him back in your yard
Most of those perfectly impractical goings on are unavoidable but the one that is avoidable is your hubby's tie situation.

To make life a little less stressful, just hang your Hubby's shirts with the coordinating tie.  That's it.  Simple as that.

When we switch over our fall/winter and spring/summer clothes, I tuck each tie under the collar of its matching shirt.  This way we don't ever have the which-tie-goes-with-this-shirt silliness on already full throttle mornings.

After he has worn the shirt and tie to church he then hangs the tie up on the tie rack, that way, he knows which shirts he has already worn to church and which ones are yet to be worn.  Plus, after he has worn them to church, the shirts go into the work shirt rotation.  (Yes, I know how geeky that sounds.  Oh my gosh, even writing that makes me shake my head at our dorkiness.  Remember, we embrace the nerd within here at Moppins Central so it's not surprising, just extra dorky. )

Try it out and hang Hubby's shirts and ties together and see if you can tick one crisis off of your list on Sunday mornings.

  1. As usual, you leave me laughing, but still agreeing with the simplicity. Reminds me of my post about hanging the kids' shorts or pants on the hanger beneath the coordinating shirt. I still shudder thinking about the day I sent one back upstairs to change out of his purple soccer shirt and camo shorts. :-)

I am wondering though, does your engineer have 52 Sunday shirts?
